What Does a Meatball Sundae Have To Do With Social Media?

Seth Godin is without a doubt a Thought Leader in the field of New Media and Viral Marketing. He has written several best selling books that have revolutionized the way both online and offline marketers present their ideas.

Seth’s new book entitled Meatball Sundae is scheduled to be released Dec 27 and in it he discusses Social Media Marketing. In fact Seth provides a very fascinating explanation of what Social Media is. In Brian Clark’s recent blog post entitled Why I Won’t Buy Seth Godin’s Meatball Sundae he paraphrases Seth and says:

Seth Godin - Meatball Sundae

“Perhaps marketing executives figure they’ll get them some blogging, and some of that podcasting, maybe some of those viral videos too, and then they’ll be able to keep selling the same stuff they have for decades. Seth explains that you’ve got to reinvent your business to fit the realities of the new marketing (rather than the other way around), because ideas that spread through groups of people are far more powerful than ideas delivered at an individual.”

Great post, Darius! Food for thought, or what?

The above Godin quote seems to suggest selling new “stuff” may help a business adjust to the realities of new marketing. But what does that mean, exactly?

I’m curious to hear your thoughts, and those from others, about how a business would go about reinventing itself around social media marketing.

To do this, I challenge you and your readers to answer this hypothetical (?) question:

How would Campbell’s Soup reinvent their business in order to survive new media marketing?
